A The backstory

Built to echo another century

Development of Colonial Village began in 1931 with roughly 80 original residences, built as deliberate reproductions of colonial-era buildings, including homes modeled on George Washington's boyhood home and the Moore House of Yorktown fame. The land had earlier been part of the 145-acre Fenwick plantation.

The neighborhood grew alongside the rise of Rock Creek Park, and today its winding, tree-lined streets and brick and frame houses give the area a quiet, established character that is rare this close to downtown. The Washington Post has described the enclave as one that lives up to its name.

Beach Drive and the park run along the neighborhood's western and southern edges, so trails, open space, and weekend escapes are effectively next door.

16th Street NW

The corridor forms the neighborhood's eastern boundary and runs straight south toward the center of the city, while Beach Drive handles north-south trips through the park.

Takoma & Silver Spring

Downtown Silver Spring's shops, theaters, and dining are walkable from parts of the neighborhood, and the Red Line's Takoma and Silver Spring stations are a short drive away.
